Financial Diagnostics & Feasibility
Two questions, one method. Where does the business actually stand today — and what would it earn if you acted on what we recommend? A diagnostic answers the first. A feasibility assessment models the second, before you commit the capital.
What a financial diagnostic is
A financial diagnostic is a thorough examination of your financial data to answer the questions that matter. Are you as profitable as you should be? Is your cashflow sustainable? Where do you sit against others in your industry?
BPS analyses your statements, ratios and cashflow, benchmarks you against your sector and delivers a clear report with specific recommendations. It is a one-off assessment rather than an ongoing engagement, and it frequently identifies the next priority worth addressing.
The second half runs the other way. Once we can see where the money is going, the same analysis turns forward: if you took the recommended action — opened the second site, replaced the plant, added the product line — what would it cost, what would it earn, and how long until it pays back? That is a project feasibility assessment, and it is built on the same figures rather than a separate exercise.
You can commission either half on its own. Most clients find the diagnosis raises the question the feasibility work then answers.
Who it’s for
Likely a fit if any of these sound familiar.
- You’re unsure whether the business is performing as it should.
- Profitability or cashflow is underperforming and the cause is unclear.
- You want an objective view before a major decision, sale or investment.
- You’d like to know how you compare to others in your industry.
- You suspect the numbers conceal risks you haven’t identified.
- You’re weighing a specific project and need to know whether it pays for itself.
- You’re choosing between competing investments and want them compared on one basis.
- You need a payback period or return figure before committing the capital.
How we run the analysis
Reading the position you’re in, then testing the one you’re considering.
Assessing where you stand
- Analyse your income statement, balance sheet and cashflow for trends and warning signs.
- Calculate and interpret key ratios for profitability, liquidity, solvency and efficiency.
- Benchmark your performance against industry standards.
- Examine cash inflows and outflows to find pressure points.
- Identify financial risks and how to mitigate them.
- Deliver a clear report with practical, prioritised recommendations.
Testing what’s possible
- Model the projected earnings from a specific initiative before you commit to it.
- Build the capital requirement for the project and phase it across the years it lands in.
- Test the return — payback period, breakeven point and return on the capital invested.
- Run best, base and downside cases, so you see a range rather than a single optimistic number.
- Compare competing projects on the same basis, so the choice is between like and like.
- State every assumption explicitly, so each one can be challenged and re-run.
