Cashflow & Forecasting

A profitable business can still run out of cash. Uncertainty cannot be removed, but it can be planned for. BPS builds the forward numbers that show where cash will tighten — then works the levers that keep it under control.

What cashflow forecasting is

A forecast is a data-based projection of what lies ahead: your sales, finances, demand and the key metrics that drive the business. Cashflow is the timing of money actually moving in and out. Even when you’re profitable on paper, poor timing can leave you short when bills fall due.

BPS handles both halves. We develop forecasts grounded in your history and market, model alternative scenarios so you can see how different outcomes would affect you, and give you a clear view of what’s ahead — plus practical steps to smooth the peaks and troughs, from tightening collections to freeing up cash held in stock.

Sound forecasting won’t eliminate risk, but it makes risk visible in advance. The result is fewer surprises, and a business that plans its next move rather than reacting to the bank balance.

Who it’s for

Likely a fit if any of these sound familiar.

  • You find it difficult to predict what cash you’ll have in coming weeks.
  • Predicting future sales or revenue is largely guesswork.
  • Meeting short-term bills is a recurring squeeze, or you’ve missed opportunities because the funds weren’t there.
  • Slow-paying customers or excess stock are tying up your cash.
  • You’re unsure about demand, market trends or seasonality.
  • You need credible projections to secure funding or investors.
  • You want to test "what if" scenarios before committing.

How we build the forecast

Two streams of work: building the forward view, then acting on what it shows.

  • Build sales forecasts from your trading history, market and seasonality.
  • Develop financial forecasts covering revenue, expenses, margins and cashflow.
  • Model demand to support inventory, production and supply planning.
  • Assess market trends and competitive dynamics.
  • Forecast operational metrics such as capacity and resource needs.
  • Run scenario planning and sensitivity analysis so you’re prepared for a range of outcomes.
  • Build cashflow forecasts that show your expected inflows and outflows.
  • Set up budgeting and tracking tools so you can see your position in real time.
  • Tighten accounts receivable, from invoicing to follow-up, to speed up collections.
  • Optimise inventory so less cash sits in stock.
  • Help you negotiate better payment terms with suppliers.
  • Develop debt management strategies to reduce interest costs.

How the two connect

A forecast that nobody acts on is an exercise. The value is in what you do once you can see the gap coming.

Project

Forward numbers built from your trading history, market and seasonality — not last year plus ten per cent.

Pressure-test

Scenarios run against the base case, so you can see which months tighten and by how much.

Act

The levers moved early — collections, stock, supplier terms and debt — while there is still time for them to work.

What you get

A clear, forward view of your cash position.

Clearer visibility of what lies ahead, and time to act on it.

Fewer surprises and materially less risk of a shortfall.

Better decisions on resources, investment and staffing.

Cash freed from stock and slow receivables.

Numbers that strengthen budgets and funding requests.

Confidence to plan for several possible futures, not just one.

The confidence to invest and act on opportunities as they arise.

Why BPS

We build forecasts you can steer by, scenarios included, so you plan against a range of outcomes rather than a single optimistic line — and we don’t simply report your cash position, we work the levers that improve it: collections, stock, terms and debt. BPS is based in Perth and works with businesses across Western Australia.
