Change Management
The plan is rarely what fails. A new system goes in and people keep using the old spreadsheet; a restructure is announced and the informal reporting lines carry on regardless. Change management is the work of taking people with you, so the change you paid for is the change you actually get.
What change management is
Change management is a structured approach to the human side of a change: understanding who it affects and how, building the case in terms those people recognise, equipping managers to lead it, and confirming that the new way of working has actually been adopted rather than merely implemented.
It matters most where the change is real: a restructure, a new system, an acquisition to integrate, a process overhaul, an owner stepping back. In each case the technical work has a completion date and the human work does not — which is why adoption is measured separately from implementation.
BPS runs this alongside the change itself. Where the change is operational — a Lean implementation, a systems integration, a restructure — we can deliver both halves, so the people plan isn’t written by someone who has never seen the project plan.
Who it’s for
The situation this service is built for.
- A previous change was implemented on paper but never really adopted.
- You’re putting in a new system and know the last one didn’t land.
- A restructure is coming and you’re unsure how to communicate it.
- You’re integrating an acquired business, or two teams that work differently.
- Resistance is showing up as delay, workarounds or quiet non-compliance.
- Your managers are being asked to lead a change nobody has prepared them for.
- Ownership or leadership is transitioning and the business needs to keep running.
What you get
Where you end up once it’s working.
- A change your people understand the reason for.
- Managers equipped to lead their teams through it, not just announce it.
- Resistance surfaced early, while it can still be addressed.
- Communication that is planned rather than improvised.
- Adoption measured, not assumed.
- A new way of working that survives after the project closes.
How we run the change
- Assess readiness and identify where resistance will come from, and why.
- Build the case for change in language the affected people actually recognise.
- Map stakeholders and design the right engagement for each group.
- Plan and deliver communications across the change, including the difficult messages.
- Equip managers to lead their own teams through it rather than defer upward.
- Sequence the change into stages people can absorb, rather than one disruptive event.
- Track adoption — whether the new way is actually being used — not just implementation.
- Embed the change so it holds once the project team steps away.
Why BPS
We measure adoption rather than implementation, because a change signed off as complete and quietly ignored is the most expensive outcome available. And because BPS delivers the operational and structural work too, the people plan and the project plan are built together. BPS is based in Perth and works with businesses across Western Australia.
