Business Diagnostics
A business can be profitable and still be pointed in the wrong direction. A business diagnostic looks past the monthly numbers at the whole operation — market position, business model, operations, people and systems — and identifies what is actually constraining the business rather than what is merely visible.
What a business diagnostic is
A business diagnostic is a structured, independent assessment of the whole business. It examines your position in the market, whether the model still earns its keep, whether operations and systems can carry what is being asked of them, and whether the organisation has the capability and leadership bandwidth the direction requires.
It is deliberately broader than a financial review. Financial Diagnostics & Feasibility answers how the business is performing and what a given project would return. This answers a different question: is the business pointed the right way, and what is structurally in the way of getting there? The two are often run together, and the financial reading feeds this one.
Most owners already sense that something is off. What they usually lack is an independent view that separates the constraint from the symptom — because effort spent on symptoms is why the same problem keeps reappearing in a different form.
The output is a set of findings and a prioritised list of what to address, in what order. Where the answer is that the direction itself needs resetting, that work is Business Strategy; this diagnoses, that decides.
Who it’s for
This service is likely a fit if any of these sound familiar.
- Growth has plateaued and you cannot say precisely why.
- The business works, but you are no longer sure the model still fits the market.
- You are busy and profitable, and it does not feel sustainable.
- The same problems keep returning in a slightly different form.
- Different people in the business give different accounts of what is wrong.
- You are new to the business or the leadership and want an independent read before committing to a direction.
- You are preparing for sale or succession and want to know what a buyer will find.
- You are about to invest significantly and want to be sure you are fixing the right thing.
How we run the diagnostic
- Review your market position, customer base and competitive setting.
- Test whether the business model still works — where value is created, and where it is captured.
- Assess operations, systems and capacity against what the business is asking of them.
- Assess the organisation: roles, capability, key-person dependency and leadership bandwidth.
- Read the financial performance for what it says about direction, not just position.
- Interview across the business rather than only at the top, so the picture is not one person’s.
- Rate each area and identify the constraints genuinely holding the business back.
- Deliver findings with a prioritised list of what to address, in what order, and why.
What you get
- An independent read on where the business actually stands.
- The real constraints, separated from the symptoms they produce.
- Agreement across the leadership on what is wrong, based on evidence rather than opinion.
- A prioritised list of what to fix first, and what can wait.
- A sound basis for the strategy or investment decision that follows.
